The Paddocks

The Paddocks – update

Anyone who has visited Country Herbs knows that David insists and takes pride on a tidy nursery. Its lovingly known as something being “Davidized” The new addition next door is slowly being Davidized. The old portakabins have gone. The trees cut and the site tidied up. The old poly sheeting removed.

We are now just praying for a period of no wind to get the new covers on…..

Exciting news from the nursery….

For some time we have been a bit limited in accepting new customers, due to the amount of herbs we can actually grow at our nursery. We don’t like turning customers away but we also know that if we alienate a new customer with poor supply, when we approach them in the future, it’s not going to end well.

Every inch of our nursery has been utilized to the maximum. The nursery next door to us has become available and even though the timing, with all the conflict and uncertainty in the world, Country Herbs has taken it on. It won’t be an instant fix to our space needs. It will however give us options to grow gradually and welcome new customers in the future.

As you can see from the pictures this isn’t a solution off a shelf, and there is a lot of work to be done.

The removal of some very tall conifers has totally transformed the skyline.

So if we haven’t been able to supply you at the moment, please be assured we are working hard to change that situation in the future.

The New season is upon us.

Week 4

We are delivering to all areas now. A good selection of wildflowers, strawberries and hardy herbs.

We have posted this before but it may be of use to our newer customers.

The method behind our madness…
We’ve sent this out before but for some of the newer customers and as a refresher it probably doesn’t hurt to explain how we work.

The Web Shop
The web shop opens on a Friday lunchtime(ish) The reason it isn’t open all week is because we have to move plants around the nursery. To fill in gaps and to put new stock down. Our system is then updated so that our staff can find the relevant plant in the relevant location. Once this is completed we can then open the web shop.

Availability
The web shop is a live stock shop. If you can’t see it we have either sold out or its not available at that moment. We do operate on a first come first served basis generally. Obviously this means the earlier you put your order in, the greater choice you will have.

Delivery order cut off time
We close the web shop for delivery orders on a Monday at 12 noon. We have to do this for a few reasons. Any order outside of our delivery area has to go onother transport companies. They have given us a cut off of 12 noon as well. They generally collect on a Tuesday. We currently deliver around 90% of our own trolleys. This gives us 4 days to get them despatched. So we have to get as many out as we can from Tuesday onwards. Monday and Tuesday are therefore our busiest days.
Collections in the height of season are sometimes moved to Wednesday onwards. This is due to the sheer bottleneck that happens on a Tuesday. Its not us being awkward its just what we have to do!

Generally we delivery to North and South London and on Tuesday/Wednesday. The Midlands is mainly on a Wednesday. Norfolk is towards the end of the week. Its not set in stone as it depends on who has ordered that week. Its is a great help if you are in London to get your order in as early as possible.

Delivery.
We load all the trolleys on the morning of delivery. This ensures that most of our trolleys are delivered within 6 hours of leaving our nursery.

Lots of varieties waking up from their dormant state!  More should be available in the next couple of weeks.

Shelf surcharge
When we sent out the 2023 prices by email there was a charge of £7 shelf surcharge mentioned. It seems that has confused some people and we apologise for that. If you are paying the delivered price for your herbs, that means it is based on a full trolley. If there is any empty shelves, then they would incur a surcharge of £7 per shelf. If this was the case we would inform you before charging the surcharge, and give you a chance to make it up to a full trolley.

Wildlife

Where we can, we strive to live with our local wildlife. Many years ago a hedge that stands as high as the nursery was planted for two purposes. To provide shelter for the nursery and also provide a great natural habitat for the birds and insects. The sound of the dawn (Not our Dawn) chorus from it is a great start to the day.

Week 2 Off we go again…

FIRE UP THE QUATTRO!! Well, the Daf, the VW and the Renault, but you get my meaning! We’re ready to start deliveries!!

We hope you all had an enjoyable festive season and have returned ready for 2023. Personally I’m just grateful to be able to know what day it is again.

We are standing by ready for orders and everything is looking good. Not too much cleaning up of over wintered herbs so far, with this mild winter, but we all know that could change in a moment.

Wild flowers are now available and there’s a demand even this early on the season!

This end of the season there’s a possibility of a part trolley delivery if we are in your area. Call or email us if your are interested. In what might possibly be a tough year we all need to work together to maximise every sale!

The stock on the web shop is live, so you can see what is available for this weeks delivery!

Don’t forget your order must be in by Noon on Monday for delivery next week. We’re looking forward to hearing from you!!
