Rhubarb

Rhubarb is a vegetable with a distinctive taste, a traditional favourite for use in pies and desserts. It was initially grown for medicinal purposes being rich in vitamin C and dietary fibre. The edible varieties can be grown for either forced or regular production.

Many people do not know that Rhubarb can be eaten raw. It is very sour and may need some sweetening either through honey or sugar but the stems can be eaten without being cooked. The leaves should always be avoided as these are poisonous.

We grow Rhubarb in 1 litre pots please see the latest availability. They are packed in trays of 8 and every pot has its own colour care card.

We offer the following three varieties:

Glaskins Perpetual – Rare old variety with thick juicy brilliant red sticks. Low in acidity allows cropping from March to September.

Victoria – Popular old variety with the most delicious flavour. Thick bright green, pink tinged sticks for cropping March to August.

Champagne – Classic variety with outstanding flavour. Succulent fruit that can be enjoyed in pies, puddings and more.
